Last weekend, I had the honor of being asked to shoot an event in Cold Spring, NY. The Drug Store Social/Popup Flower Shop was co-hosted by The Living Room and Foxglove Floral with the help of A TON of NYC and Cold Spring based vendors. The idea around the event was to get folks to “cheat on the city” and take a beautiful 70 minute train ride up the Hudson to check out what Cold Spring has to offer. Stepping off the train onto Main Street is like being in a different country. The lush, green backdrop lends itself to a quaint town full of antique shops, cozy restaurants, and a new venue perfect for weddings and events.

I was asked to shoot a few styled tables featuring flowers, desserts, rental props, and the venue itself. Check out the photos below to get some creative ideas for your own wedding or event!

“Formerly a Prohibition-era drugstore, The Living Room is a modern venue offering a wealth of opportunity to dress up your spiffy cocktail hour or formal sit-down occasion to celebrate with loved ones. We can accommodate a sit-down dinner up to 70 guests. Cocktail and dance parties can go up to 115. Our space is ideal for the contemporary couple looking to hide away in a beautiful setting with their favorite people.”  – The Living Room

The various lighting in this space lends itself to a variety of moods and styling. The architectural features are what makes this space unique with a twist of original finishes like the tin ceiling with modern updates like the “pop out” wall.

This is Douglas, the Manager at The Living Room. From the moment I stepped foot into the space, Douglas was on hand to keep us on schedule while providing me with all the details I needed to capture the space accordingly. This guy is full of energy, organized, and knows exactly what needs to happen to pull off such a detailed event – a truly dedicated coordinator that any venue could be proud of!

This is Natalie. She owns The Living Room and on this particular day she was beaming with joy because the latest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings featured her space!

The lovely ladies of Foxglove hosted a popup shop featuring some of their arrangements. They also handed out small bouquets to the locals and the city folks that came up to Cold Spring on this gorgeous Saturday afternoon. It was great that I got to chat it up and see them at work. Most wedding photographers have little interaction with the florist on the day of a wedding, usually passing each other as one finishes their work and the other starts shooting it. Justine and Jessica enjoy working with their clients during the consultation and design process, but pride themselves on “being like little elves” on the day of a wedding. That means making sure every thing is set up before the photographer starts with their detail shots and returning to clean up when the event concludes.

As part of the “Drug Store Social” portion of the event, Wil from The Cocktail Weenies was on hand to teach folks how to make some drinks. The 3 featured cocktails were a Manhattan, a Sazerac, and a special concoction crafted for this event- The Rosemary Hill, invented by Wil. Having an expert create a hand crafted cocktail is a great way to add a personal touch to your event. A good barman (or two) will always entertain and educate your guests so that they enjoy each sip that much more.
